Puzzlewood is a magical ancient woodland in the Forest of Dean that feels like somewhere straight out of a storybook. Wander along twisting paths through moss-covered rocks and trees, cross little bridges and explore the unusual woodland landscape. There’s around a mile and a half of paths to discover, and the woods have even been used as a filming location for productions including Star Wars and Doctor Who. Children can also enjoy the play areas and willow maze, making it easy to spend a good chunk of the day here. It’s definitely one for walking rather than wheels, there are lots of uneven steps and narrow paths, so pushchairs aren't suitable. For younger children, bring a carrier and sensible shoes.

Why parents love it
It feels like stepping into another world. Kids can explore winding woodland paths, clamber through the incredible landscape and let their imaginations run wild. There are also a cafe and toliets on site.

- The woodland looks amazing after rain, but the paths and steps can be slippery, so sturdy footwear with good grip is a must. Most of the adventure is outdoors.
