Cookies and browser storage

If you create an account, our sign-in provider stores a secure session token in your browser to keep you signed in as you move around the site. This is strictly necessary for the account features to work and is not used for tracking. It is removed when you sign out.

We store a small number of functional preferences in your browser so the site behaves as you would expect. These include your cookie choice itself (so we remember whether you accepted or declined analytics) and, briefly, an unfinished "save" action so it can complete after you sign in. These items stay on your device, are not shared with anyone, and are not used for advertising or tracking.

If you choose Accept analytics on the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics 4 (provided by Google) to understand how parents use Little Day Out — for example which pages are visited, which days out are viewed or saved, and roughly where in the UK visitors are. This helps us improve the site.

Google Analytics sets cookies such as _ga and _ga_*, which distinguish one browser from another and can last up to two years. Google Analytics is configured with advertising features turned off, and we never send it personal information such as your name, email address, postcode or the text you type into forms.

If you choose Essential only, Google Analytics is never loaded and no analytics cookies are set. Your current choice is: not chosen yet.

Changing to Essential only stops Google Analytics straight away and removes its cookies from this browser.

OpenStreetMap supplies our map tiles and postcodes.io helps resolve location searches. Your browser contacts these services directly when you use maps or location search; they may receive technical information such as your IP address, but they do not set tracking cookies through Little Day Out.

You can change your analytics choice at any time using the buttons above or the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. You can also clear cookies and site data through your browser settings — doing so will sign you out and reset your cookie choice, so we will ask again on your next visit. Questions?
